Service Project

Lourdes Academy has collected over 1000 food items for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry!!!  Truly, God's love shines through our children's service to the hungry in our community.  Each item donated earned a chance to cut Coach Van Auken's hair... stay tuned for the announcement of the winner!

Congratulations!

On Monday, Hailey N. (grade 8) and Ryan A. (grade 7) won our team player award.  Previous winners include Stephanie Correia (grade 6), Ar'mondre P. (grade 7), Matthew L. (grade 4), Tylee F. (grade 3), Dennis V. (grade 5), Mashanti C. (grade 1), Johnny M. (grade 8), Sierra Y. (grade 3), Romello N. (grade 4), Lea G. (grade 7), and Justin S. (grade 1) . Coach VanAuken gives out this award each week to the student who best displays good sportsmanship in Physical Education classes or as a team player overall.

Volunteers Needed

Lourdes Academy is only successful because of the involvement of our families.  To volunteer in Catholic schools, you must be cleared through our background screening process.  Background screens conducted by other agencies cannot be accepted.  Please visit the Diocese of Orlando website and click on Fingerprinting.  Volunteers must also complete the Safe Environment training on the same site.  Thank you for your service!

Curriculum

The school consists of three levels:  Early Childhood (PK3-K), Elementary (1-4), and Upper School (5-8).  Grades Pre-K3 - 4th are self-contained while grades 5-8 share co-teachers (5-6, and 7-8).

Lourdes Academy provides its students with a curriculum that is a balance of academics, religion, and special subjects.  Our curriculum is based upon the Next Generation Florida Sunshine State Standards (for core courses) and Diocese of Orlando standards (media, art, religion).

Curriculum development is an ongoing process.  The Principal oversees the curriculum with grade level teams meeting monthly for vertical planning.  Adoption of new textbooks is planned to meet the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards’ requirements as well as standards from the Diocese of Orlando.  Once a new text is adopted, faculty and administration plan for integration.

Curriculum is constantly reviewed via Instruction Planner and Curriculum Mapper software.  This forward planning and diary mapping process will, over time, allow teachers to find gaps and redundancies in their curriculum and plan for their elimination.  Lourdes Academy just began the Instruction Planner phase of this process in 2010.  Full use of Curriculum maps will be possible starting in 2013.

Curriculum development and revision are supplemented through teacher membership on diocesan-level committees.  In addition, school grade level meetings are scheduled each week to allow for coordination of curriculum and vertical planning.  New approaches to instruction are explored through sharing of professional articles, ideas, and strategies.
